Accounting Capabilities
📘 Accounting Capabilities
PostFinance Checkout provides basic accounting capabilities that allow you to maintain a journal and generate accounting summaries. These features enable you to use PostFinance Checkout as a lightweight sub-ledger, ideal for simplifying reconciliation and tracking financial flows across payment processors.
⚠️ Note: This module must be explicitly enabled. No accounting entries will be written unless the feature is activated.
🧾 Overview
The core of the accounting system is the Journal, which continuously tracks changes on individual accounts over time. These journal entries are grouped into Accounting Summaries, which can be used for:
- Financial reporting
- Reconciliation
PostFinance Checkout records accounting entries for every transaction in the form of a Debtor Tool, which acts as a virtual sub-account. Funds are recorded here when they are received via one of the following channels:
- 🏦 Third-party acquirers providing settlement files
- 📨 External processors whose account files are imported
- ⚙️ wallee Processor, delivering settlement records directly
In each scenario, the system generates journal entries and clears the open debtor items accordingly.
🔒 Activation & Requirements
To use this feature:
- ✅ The Accounting module must be enabled in your environment.
- 📥 PostFinance Checkout will begin writing Bank Transaction Records and creating the corresponding journal entries automatically.
- 💡 Ensure that your integration supports the ingestion of settlement data via one of the supported input formats (e.g., account files or processor APIs).
🚧 Limitations & Restrictions
PostFinance Checkout’s accounting functionality is intentionally basic and does not aim to replace a full general ledger or ERP integration. See restrictions-limitations.md
Before using this module, you should be aware of the following limitations:
- ❗ It does not support complex accounting rules or multi-entity consolidations
- ⚠️ Manual correction of misbooked entries is only possible via API or admin interface
- 🧩 Integration with your main accounting system is not included
- 🛠️ Available features may differ depending on your processor and configuration
- We can not handle Multicurrency reporting. This is only done for basic account or verifications.
💡 You should evaluate these limitations carefully before relying on PostFinance Checkout as a core accounting component.
