Verification Documents

Identification process following successful initial review

Once the initial review and validation of your application are successfully completed, the identification process begins for the relevant individuals. All involved persons are informed via email about the specific steps required for them.

The process differs for representatives and Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) — see the two sections below.

Accepted identification documents

  • Valid national ID card
  • Valid passport
attention

The document must be valid throughout the entire identification process until its completion — it must not be expired. Driving licenses and residence permits are not accepted as identification documents.

Representative

The representative is the person submitting and managing the application.

Requirement: must have a user account with PostFinance Checkout.

Required steps — all four must be completed:

  1. Online identification — complete an ID check using a photo of the ID document and a selfie (via mobile phone or webcam).
  2. Mobile number verification — confirm using a code received via SMS.
  3. Email verification — confirm using a code received via email.
  4. Address verification — provide proof of your private address by uploading a valid document, for example a recent utility bill (electricity, gas, water or phone), a payslip, an official government letter or a bank statement. Depending on the document type, it should typically not be older than 3–6 months.

Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs)

Requirement: UBOs do not need their own user account with PostFinance Checkout.

There are two ways to provide their documents:

  • Option A (standard path): UBOs use the link in the notification email to securely upload a copy of their valid ID document (ID card or passport). No further steps are required from them.
  • Option B (admin upload): alternatively, an administrator of the account uploads the ID documents for all UBOs, provided these documents are available to the administrator.
attention

Data must match exactly. The personal data on the uploaded ID document — especially the full name and date of birth — must exactly match the data previously entered into the system. Any discrepancies are highlighted during the upload process, and you then have the opportunity to correct or update the stored data according to the information on the ID document.
