How do I test PayPal with my own PayPal sandbox account?
In test mode, a PayPal processor can either use the default sandbox account provided by PostFinance Checkout or a PayPal sandbox account of your own. Which one is used is decided when you create the processor.
Use your own sandbox account
- Navigate to Space > Settings > Processors and create a new PayPal processor.
- In step 2, set Operation Mode to Sandbox.
- Under Sandbox Details, clear the checkbox "Use default sandbox account". The option is selected by default.
- Click Create and configure the connectors.
- On the processor page, the Sandbox Account tile now shows Not Linked. Click Link.
- Confirm the data-sharing notice and continue to PayPal. Sign in with a PayPal sandbox business account and grant the requested permissions. You can create sandbox accounts in the PayPal Developer Dashboard.
After returning to PostFinance Checkout, the linked sandbox account is shown in the Sandbox Account tile.

Sign in with a business account. Linking with a personal PayPal account fails.
Why can't I link a sandbox account to my existing processor?
- If "Use default sandbox account" was left selected when the processor was created, the Sandbox Account tile shows Using Default and no Link button. This setting cannot be changed afterwards.
- Once a PayPal processor has successful payments, a different PayPal account can no longer be linked to it.
In both cases, create a new PayPal processor as described above, link your sandbox account before the first payment, assign the connectors to the new processor and deactivate the old one.
