Merchant Onboarding
As a wallee join partner you can onboard merchants through three channels. All of them lead to the same result — a fully KYC-checked merchant account linked to your partner account — so you can pick the channel that fits your setup, or mix them.
| Channel | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Portal (manual) | Initiate an onboarding for a specific merchant from your join dashboard; wallee sends the invitation email | Personal, high-touch onboarding of individual merchants |
| Onboarding links (self-service) | Publish a reusable link on your website, in campaigns or in-app; merchants sign up themselves | Scalable acquisition without integration effort |
| API (embedded) | Create partnerships and prefill KYC applications programmatically from your own platform | ISVs and platforms that want onboarding as a native part of their product |
The two-step pattern
Every merchant onboarding follows the same two steps, regardless of model and channel:
- Sign-up — the merchant signs up via your link or is invited by you. The flow already knows which partner referred them, whether it is an affiliate or ISV partnership, and which product and pricing apply.
- Email confirmation & KYC — the merchant confirms their email address and completes the digital onboarding (KYC/AML), unless the data was already submitted via API.
Behind the scenes a partnership record is created that links the merchant to your partner account. wallee runs all compliance checks and remains the regulated entity.
In this section
- Onboarding via Portal & Links — the no-code flows: manual invitations, affiliate and ISV links, linking existing accounts.
- Onboarding via API — the embedded flow: create partnerships, prefill KYC data, hand over for confirmation and track the status.
Tracking
You can track every onboarding in the join dashboard (active, pending, etc.) or query it programmatically via the merchant application status endpoint.
